About La Hora de Salud

La Hora de Salud is a Spanish-language radio program that informs, educates, and connects Milwaukee's Latino community around important health topics. Each week, our hosts Gabriela Diéguez and Shary Pérez speak with experts, community leaders, and local residents about how to improve our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Every Saturday at 9:30AM on La Grande 104.7 FM, we come together to talk about the health topics that matter most to Latino Families in Southeastern Wisconsin. From everyday wellness tips to important conversations about community resources and health research, our goal is simple: to help you stay informed, empowered, and connected.

Our show started with the idea that health information should be easy to understand, culturally relevant, and available in Spanish. Since then, La Hora de Salud has become a trusted source for learning, sharing, and growing together as a community. Now, as we launch Season 2, we're excited to dive into even more topics that you've told us are important.

At La Hora de Salud, we believe that good health starts with good information and we're here to make sure our community has both. Tune in, join the conversation, and be part of a healthier future for all!

New episode every week. Saturdays at 9:30AM on LaGranD 104.7FM

Commonly Asked Questions

Will you actually answer my questions?

Yes! If you send us a message, we’ll do our best to connect with the right expert and get your question answered. We may even feature it in a podcast episode where we ask the expert exactly what you want to know. So don’t hesitate to reach out!

How can Milwaukee residents in a house or condo get free smoke detectors?
Call (414) 286-8980 (Option 2 for Spanish), leave your name, address, phone number, and best callback time. The Fire Department will schedule a visit to install detectors for free, though arrival times may vary due to emergencies. The service is based on the residence, not the person, so if you move, leave the detector and request new ones for your new home. (Apartment residents should contact DNS instead, since building owners are responsible for detectors).
If you want to learn more about smoke and carbon monoxide detectors watch our episode on where we talk to Lt. Carlos Velazquez on how to keep ou7r homes safe: La Hora de Salud Episodio 5: La Calefacción Segura
What scams are most commonly affecting the Latino community today?
The most common scams come through text messages and emails. They often use urgent or threatening language and pretend to be the IRS or a family member. Some messages look very real, which causes stress because people aren’t sure if they’re legitimate or a scam.
You can learn more in our episode where we talk about scams and the stress they cause: La Hora de Salud: Episodio 2 Las estafas y tu salud emocional
